Hi. I'm Sarah. He's Kevin. She's Hannah Claire. We're a family, blessed with our daughter via international adoption. Hannah was born and lovingly cared for in Taiwan, placed into our arms on 12.29.08, and things haven't been quite the same since. Hallelujah! On 9.2.11 we rejoiced when we received the referral for a little boy, nearly 10 months old, living in foster care in Taiwan. Our family is excitingly preparing for him to come home in 2012.

Peiling and the Chicken-Fried Christmas

I just finished read a novel written for 8-12 year old children called Peiling and the Chicken-fried Christmas. The story is about an eleven-year-old Taiwanese American girl that desperately wants to celebrate a "real American Christmas" but is met with resistance from her parents. It is a nice little book that focuses on a struggle for identity as a young Asian American. It's can be enjoyed by adults too, and I read it in one sitting in about the time it takes to watch a movie.

Thanks for the book review and suggestion (hadn't heard of this one before). We love "The Year of the Dog" by Grace Lin...also about a Taiwanese-American girl's experience (based on Lin's experience/family). She's a fabulous illustrator/author. We love her picture books. Look forward to checking out Peiling.
