pendant making with Rebecca



Rebecca came over today to make pendants today. Of course, we took pics. My fingers are covered with glue, and hers are numb from pressing down on pieces of glass to cut around it with a sharp blade. We still have all of our fingers, thank goodness. The glaze needs 24 hours to dry. I'll be adding a few more pics when they're finished.

If you want to make some for Christmas gifts, there's still time. I have some directions here. I bought the Japanese papers online from Paper Studio. You can buy a sample sized piece of paper for $1.25 including shipping. Can't beat that. It's plenty for several pieces. Here is an Etsy seller that can make you custom silk cords. You name the length and the color. So easy.

  2. Nope, we didn't put a backing on the paper. The glaze sticks the pretty side of the paper to the glass. We let that dry a little while. Then we put a layer of glaze on the back to protect the paper and the edges of the paper. Now I'm going back and adding a second layer of glaze on the back of them to make the backs smoother. The backs are now showing color becuase the papers soak up some of the water soluble glaze and parts of the paper even start to look transparent. I think it's cool, because it makes some really look like stained glass. Some of the paper edges that didn't get enough glaze during round one have corners that turn up a little bit. I lift them up, stick some more glaze under them, press down for awhile... add more glaze on top, and presto! Fixed.

  4. Yay for pendant making!! YAY! It was so much fun being crafty!

    How was the peanut chicken?

    Ugh on having to go back a second time. I'm sorry to hear that some of the edges are turning up - what a pain! I think my thumb is numb from pressing the glue bottle AND doing the razor knife. (At least I didn't chop a finger off).

    Oh, and good thing I didn't go home earlier. There wasn't any fog by the time I was back on the road.

  7. Looks like a lot of fun! I heart being crafty, just don't get the chance very often with my "helper" getting into everything! I had a chance to visit with Laura this past week, what an amazing person she is- I told her I was coming ready to storm the house but then you got your fianl decree so I was coming in peace instead. She LOVES you and your sweet girly! It was so fun to sit there with her seven and my five- it was a complete ZOO, but so much fun. We were working on thye Chung Yi picture the future project scheduled for June, I so hope I can figure things out so I can go.
